Mr. Brainwash โข Liberty Print, by kjzimm on Mar 11, 2010 3:31:25 GMT 1, Say what you mean Skitchy..:-) I totally agree, man this forum has gone down hill, its all about greedy little f**ks wanting to make money on everything, people selling free prints on ebay, people buying this god aweful print to make some money, as someone mentioned flipping has been going on for years but not to this extent!! This forum is just about f**ked imo, there is another option for people who actually like art ;-)
Sotheby's? Christie's? That's where the old school professional flippers sell. But, the difference is that they bought (correctly) way earlier in the game than their Ebay descendants. It is entirely true--art qualifies as an asset. Therefore, if sold, making a profit is expected. Everyone here would agree. Some of you don't sell because you like it. But, I'm sure you consider the true "value" of the works you own. Maybe even insure it. It is only natural as it is an asset.
With regard to the forum, I believe the people here consider the "value" of their investment. Maybe even want reinforcing opinions to justify their spending.

Mr. Brainwash โข Liberty Print, by Drymounted on Mar 11, 2010 4:43:03 GMT 1, WARNING Calm it down! I think most people here don't like or will ever buy work by Mr Brainwash, so why get all upset about it? his print sells out, so what? you dint like it, so what are you worried about? Why get so aggressive when a small number of people like an artists work that you don't? they are entitled to spend their money on whatever they like, just as you are respect that! and respect other peoples opinions. Well played, sir!
A lot of you are making me tear up with all of this hatred. Come on guys..Grow up and realize that Fanboys come in all shapes, sizes and preferences. I'd be willing to bet a few of you are fans of a man called Banksy.
Too much energy is being spent on knocking the taste of a small select group.
"Hate is baggage, life is too short to go around pissed off all the time..."

Mr. Brainwash โข Liberty Print, by Ottomatik on Mar 11, 2010 7:15:01 GMT 1, I like MBW. I am a fan. I was NOT lucky today. I want to thank all of you anti-Brainers for shutting me out today. I will not, however, pay your artificial value that you have created for your flipping price.
To the peeps that paid $400+ on eBay, why are you doing that? That's fuel for the flippers. Don't feed the bears!

Mr. Brainwash โข Liberty Print, by raiden on Mar 11, 2010 7:43:10 GMT 1, I think this also answers on cadellaws question of why some people post on MBW threads who hate him.
I post for a couple reasons:
1) I enjoy discourse and arguing in general. What's so fun about discussing and arguing art is that its subjective opinion swayed by objective realities. As been said a million times, buy what you like. And there is no argument to "I don't know, I just like the piece," because that's subjectivity in its purest form.
But there are plenty of largely objective arguments that influence that subjective opinion - technique, artists background, originality of an idea, facts of who is buying, facts of why they are buying, etc.
What makes it more fun, is that its all tied to economic valuations.
2) I do feel a certain impulse to argue against false ideas. And the unfounded hype and distortion surrounding MBW bugs me - and I speak primarily of the distortion of objective details about him - though I've also taken up excessive hyping by people who say factually erroneous superlatives about him - e.g. he's bigger than Banksy, Shep, etc.
3) Its interesting to see how artists rise (and fall.) I've been aware of MBW since 2006. Its certainly been surprising that he's gotten this far. MBW is a fascinating example of how hype, false perceptions, serendipitous associations, outright lying, dumb luck, some savvy, timing, art market manipulation, a good deal of financial backing, and very little creativity or artistic talent, created what can be appropriately termed a "street art disaster" story.
4) While surprised at how much some of his prints have appreciated, I don't think MBW prints are a sound long term artistic investment. I monitor discussions of him, largely because I see a lot of red flags in the attitudes of his collectors. One of the biggest errors is their perception that current prices fail to price in the future expectations of his market. Most every discussion of fervent collectors of MBW involve some hype line as to his future value, but very little concern for the intrinsic value of the piece itself or of him as an artist.
This is why practically no collectible that is marketed as a collectible appreciates much in value year to year, people horde the collectible believing it to be of value, therefore the supply exceeds actual demand. This is occurring by and large with the entire print market. Prints in tubes have no intrinsic value, they're clutter, but they're held onto for perceived value. A bubble forms, oversupply, and then it bursts.
When MBW fans compare the markets of Banksy to MBW, they are demonstrating gross myopia. The differences are manifold. But the biggest difference is the continuous assumption that "he will appreciate like Banksy." Whereas, its just as likely as his prints will appreciate like Dali, which isn't a compliment as Dali flooded his market and now you can buy Dali prints that went for $5,000 in the 1980s for $500 today on Ebay. (not to say there aren't select Dali prints that still go for thousands and appreciated, but it was a situations where collector expectations clearly weren't met)
So I read a lot of the statements of collectors (like the guy who said his daughter's college tuition might be paid for with his tubed up MBW) with morbid psychological curiosity into how collector markets manifest themselves.
I think this also answers on cadellaws question of why some people post on MBW threads who hate him.

Mr. Brainwash โข Liberty Print, by schlomo on Mar 11, 2010 11:17:36 GMT 1, Not often but today I agree with Mr Silky and if you don't like it .........don't buy it period! To all the haters and flippers I say simply "SUCK IT", and choke on it on the way down.... Please leave those prints for us "U.S" buyers as you love to state and go buy some more POW print garbage.....maybe a nice Vaucher or even better a new Steve Powers!! yea!!
Bit ludicrous to say the first thing in one breath and then slate people who buy GV or Steve Powers (both of who are actually talented artists and have been in the game alot longer than MBW) in the second breath, no?

Mr. Brainwash โข Liberty Print, by adam on Mar 11, 2010 16:47:24 GMT 1, Well said silky and raiden - do people sit waiting for a new MBW thread so they can spew some more playground vitriol? Some art I buy because I admire it, some purely for the way it looks - I own some Banksys and some MBW. Not many would argue MBW has Banksy's talent or imagination - I certainly would not. However I recent sold a Trolleys and its wall sapce will go to a Legend that I have been meaning to frame ever since I bought it. I just never grew to like the trolleys image, despite it's witty message on consumerism/commercialism.
I recall an early MBW thread where critics were saying if he stuff was really sought after, the prints would sell out and loads of flippers would appear on eBay - well that has happened and values of his older work seem to be rising too. Yet still people come here to slag off.
Why not just accept you don't like MBW's work and stick to other forums? Life is too short to be so negative.

I think raiden has backed off his previous behavior of posting longwinded posts about how terrible and how much of a hack MBW is; now he posts longwinded posts which analyze the whole MBW phenomenon, however are also spliced with his opinion (that Mr. Brainwash is terrible and that he is a hack). I much prefer reading the raiden 2.0 posts as opposed to reading the same forum members state "This sucks! You suck for buying this" ad nauseum.
Although after reading raiden's most recent insightful post, i still can't say that my question is answered- Why do forum members waste their time seeking out every MBW post they can find only to post how much you hate him? It really seems like a complete waste of time to me and pretty childish. Surely there has to be something better to do than that, e.g. read a book, take up scrapbooking or juggling, WORK, masturbate, revamp your farmville farm on facebook, et al. It is as if this whole MBW thing really pisses certain people off to an unhealthy level... like stroke level. There is really no need to get hostile about the whole thing. I can understand posting your opinion once or twice when the issue comes up, but why do people feel the need to do it EVERYTIME?
My advice: Let it go... if the worst thing that ever happens in your life is the fact that MBW sells prints, you are doing pretty well.

Mr. Brainwash โข Liberty Print, by amsterdam9697 on Mar 12, 2010 1:49:00 GMT 1, I like MBW.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but haven't you been flipping pretty shite MBW prints on the 'Bay with absolutely dumb high BIN prices? Guess I don't understand why you're hating on the flippers if you yourself are one of the bigger one's on this site when it comes to flipping MBW at outrageous prices???
Might want to check on that karma sometime... it seems to be biting you in the ass as of late.

Mr. Brainwash โข Liberty Print, by Guest on Mar 12, 2010 1:56:30 GMT 1, To be honest, Raidens post is an example of why threads like these are good. This thread is evolving from a "MBW is s**t, why are you mugs buying this stuff" to a much more interesting one.
You have posted more than anyone on this thread jboy excluded, so quit giving your advice to people. this forum is a place for people to share their thoughts good or bad, get used to it, or take your own advice and take up another hobby.

Mr. Brainwash โข Liberty Print, by Ottomatik on Mar 12, 2010 2:58:29 GMT 1, Amsterdam...thanks for your concern. I think my Karma is just fine. I, however, found my Liberty print.
As for me being a "bigger MBW flipper," well I have NEVER sold a MBW print. I've traded 2.
So if you don't mind, I'd rather you get your facts straight before you go spewing shite on the threads.

Mr. Brainwash โข Liberty Print, by swamped on Mar 12, 2010 5:38:38 GMT 1, Not often but today I agree with Mr Silky and if you don't like it .........don't buy it period!
Ok I would have to agree, nothing personal I just picked a couple of names as examples to use, those artist are just fine, not my taste at all but to each there own. Next time I will just use a made up name to get my point across,.
